Nobody’s Home

Nobody is home on the corner their grocery cart
overflowing is parked hard against the lamppost.
They left unexpectedly, no time to dress,
one shoe planted where they stood,

a lonely sneaker.

Their windbreaker spreads shadowlike on the sidewalk,
a loose-leaf binder with loose leaves open
waves as we pass through the nest.
