On the Green Line
Insinuating rhythms
of steel wheels
on steel rails
and I watch
your feet tapping
on the floor
of the subway car
left left left
then right right
then both at once
your fingers drumming
on your leg
as the train shudders
into a station.
In the sudden
stillness Radiohead
pulses through
my earphones
and I find myself
adjusting my fingers’
rhythm to yours.
