Festival of Belonging

On April 30th 2012 the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts launched the Festival of Belonging. Readings took place across the city by award winning authors such as Hari Kunzru, Tahmima Anam, Daljit Nagra and festival writer-in-residence Helen Oyeyemi.

The Festival of Belonging Fringe Programme was presented by Trashed Organ, a Newcastle based literature, music and events collective, established in 2010 by writers John Challis, Robert Haughton and Melanie Rashbrooke.

On May 1st 2012 as part of the Castles, Collieries and Coastline poetry event, StepAway Magazine presented an exploration of North East flânerie with readings from Ira Lightman, Bob Beagrie, Ian Davidson and Keith Parker.

StepAway Magazine would like to thank the NCLA, Trashed Organ and all of the writers involved for providing a wonderful evening of poetry and song.
