As Prominent as Green

This St. Patrick’s Day parade
has an extra colour combination along with our own
like buttercups dipped in the sky
weaving through the crowds.

But, the stark destruction of Mariupol
and the burning ruins of Kharkiv carries in the wind
living in the children of the dead
reverberating through the generations.

Our hearts are breaking for Ukraine
out for the first time in three years
watching the parade.
