Finding Terrassa

Catalonia

The rocky bogland snaking north
to wilderness is no more a river
despite the deceptive blue of Google,
and the frantic traffic streams
on both sides warn a hiking venture
is madness so, we curve west
into civilisation along a happy ramblas
that leads to the pulsing heart.

From this unplanned approach
the central square appears gem-like
wrapped in a tissue of alleys
and disappointment is tempered
with surprise and delight.
We chance a bar near the cathedral,
where sufferings are showcased
in marble and oil-paint drama,
drink the buzz of life here,
realising now that on that first visit
we traced outskirts; missed the point.
