Pale Blue Dot

Down at the river
Tree-root snagged
Or gravel-bed pinned
Rot the fast-life highs
All floodwaters bring

Energy drink cans
Cigarette stubs
Disposable vapes
Tall coffee cups
Fast-food containers
Chocolate bar wraps
A losing scratch-card
Drug blister packs

And so a forget-me-not flower
A single one
Exquisite
There blooming
Amid our filth and blight
Feels like a gift
The purest speck of light

A pale blue dot
That neither you nor I deserve
